The first episode showed promise to what to the story could be and it was what I thought it was going to be. Its basic. Tanjiro has some secret power where he can use fire breathing style. Tanjiro is a nice character with good morale but for some reason it doesn't feel to satisfying when he gets this op ability. Now yes my favorite season is when that is introduced but I like that season mostly because of the villians and the final fight. The main character getting a fated ability is not bad since the creator of the story chose the main character so yea their gonna be special. That doesn't work here too well with me here. Tanjiro is a good person but I feel its the fact the villains keep losing to Tanjiro. I get that there is build up to these moments and he struggles but it feels too convient. On top of the that the developing story connected to Muzan just doesn't interst me that much. I'm not bored watching the overarching plot unravel but also not too interested either. Overall I think the story is enough to not hold back the other aspects of the show but really doesn't do much to increase my enjoyment.
I think the characters in the show are quite great. Tanjiro is a likeable main character though beyond that I mean he is good but not great. Zenitsu I hoenstly don't mind too much but don't particulary find interesting. His sleeping strong form is cool and of course in the latest movie he was able to use his breathing art abilities without being asleep which cool. Inosuke is my favorite character since I like his airhead fighting personality, its fun.
None of these characters stand out to me even inosuke i like a lot but not that much. The Hashira are cool. Their backstories are nice. I think my favorite is Muchiro's even if he comes from my least favorite season. My favorite Hashira is Tengen since he was just really great in season 2 throughout it. The villians thought really are where I take a slight dislike at. The first big villian demon at the end of season 1 had a emotional backstory and also at the end season 3. The sibiling demons where probably my favorite backstory across the anime and defenitely my favorite villians. Though in seaon 4 the villians are just boring. Vase guy is boring. The Demon that could split had a cool demon art but not interesting either. He had a dumb backstory. Muzan's story was actually ok.
But my biggest "oh my god bruh" moment was Akaza. The whole movie I had in the back of my head "I swear if they give this guy some stupid emotional backstory". Then it happend and it was ok. I thought they would have him be just a straight villian like vase guy. I think that would of been so much better. I know this story has a lot of hope elements too it but Akaza being a straight up bad demon would have been better in my opinion. He has already done enough to make the viewers hate him. I get the amazing ability to make you feel sympathy for a character you should hate but honestly it didn't work. It would have to really sell me on it. It really didn't, I felt it just landed in a awkward middle. I mean the really nail in the coffin was when he gave up fighting I just rolled my eyes so hard. I just think the characters can be bad to pretty good.
The world is not really expanded upon. People get cool abliities when they are introduced. Upgrades are faster or stronger versions fairly simple upgrades. Not really any new abilties. The setting isn't really too expanded upon which is fine. It doesn't need to be but I mean its not particularly interesting. The demon arts concept to me is more fun that the breathing styles which gives it the bonus 7.5 instead of a 7.
But yea the world ins't really expansive. Like its mainly just focused on the demon slayers and demons. Sure they show swordsmiths but their not really expanded upon. The world is just not interesting. I defenitely not asking for a spin off to learn more about the world. I mean in general I don't really care for one but if I was gonna have a reason it would be for an intersting character like maybe a demon.
The music in the show is definetly very cool. Very cinematic whether it is for a movie or just the regular show. They are always hype and/or fit the area they are in and honestly does half the world building. Really great and supports the show very well.
Of course when you talk about Demon Slayer you have to mention the animation. First of all the amount of colors of the show is great. Since the demons burn in the sunlight most of the show is in the night. The dark backdrop in most the show really make the colors pop. Then the battle animation is literally cinematic. Every season's fight against the Upper Ranks is movie level cheorgraphy and animation.
You can't deny the anime looks great and has awesome action. Some people say the animation carries the show but I don't agree. I just think it overshadows it quite a bit. like I said previously, I think the characters and story are not bad. Without the amazing animation the show would still be good but with the animation is great. So yea overall the animation is great but doesn't completely carry the show.
